Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

... and the league of Evil Ex's.

Do I even have to say it? *Sigh* alright...

this post may or may not contain a ton of spoilers for one of the coolest movies on the planet, just warning you cuz I know I should. Proceed with caution.

Fact: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is like... the coolest movie on the planet. Well, one of the coolest movies.

Fact: The League Of Evil Ex's seemed strangely familiar...

Fact: If you haven't seen Scott Pilgrim, you need to. Or you shall die. A horrible, tragic, painful death caused by lack of raucous laughter which can only be remedied by exposure to Michael Cera's portrayal of Scott Pilgrim.

Fact: The Vegan Police. Complete and total awesomeness. Also: if I go back to being vegan can I have superpowers too?

I know I'm a little behind on my review of what is probably the most laugh-out-loud film I've seen since... forever... but I was a little busy.

So here goes:

I saw the film in Seattle, out at Southcenter in the OLD theater (not the new one at the mall, for anyone from 'round those parts who understands what I'm talking about). Just for reference, I was drinking a blue ICEE while watching, which had strong potential to have made the film even more amazing.

But that's just a theory.

Anyways, we sat down, and when the movie started, it started with a bang.

Or, you know, an old-school Mario throwback in the form of the opening sequence (the Universal logo all pixilated and junk).

It then went on to involve all sorts of amazing.

Scott Pilgrim (for those not familiar with the comic/movie/amazingness) is a 23 year old resident of Toronto, and the bass player for "Sex Bob-omb" (in a handful of scenes that flash me back to Nick And Norah's Infinite Play List) which is a band that has (in the movie at least) very catchy yet instantly confusing music. Read as: everyone would probably want to put it on the radio. Side note: Go out and buy the sound track even if you don't see the movie.

Scott Pilgrim has incessant dreams about a girl who he later finds out is Ramona Flowers. He finds this out - and meets her - right after he starts dating 17 year old high school student Knives Chau, she of the incessantly perky disposition and childish conversation topics.

Disregarding the fact that he's dating Knives, he starts dating Ramona, and finds out about the league of evil ex's.

These evil ex's are:

Matthew Patel, the first evil ex. He dated Ramona for a week. Has mystical powers. Oh noes!

Lucas Lee, the second evil ex. Skater turned actor who Scott's gay best friend/roommate has a crush on.

Todd Ingram, the third evil ex. Also the boyfriend of Scott's only evil ex, Natalie aka Envy, singer of Clash At The Demonhead (once again, fabulous band). He has special powers because he's vegan and is defeated when the vegan police show up and take his powers away because of three infractions on his vegan diet.

Roxanne "Roxy" Richter, the fourth evil ex. She's the reason why Ramona keeps correcting Scott that it isn't "evil ex boyfriends" but rather "evil ex's". She's kind of the one you have to "meet" to understand.

Kyle and Ken Katayanagi, the fifth and sixth evil ex's, twins that Ramona dated. Also famous Japanese pop stars. Just cause they can.

Gideon Gordon Graves, the seventh evil ex. He's the one who thought up the league of evil ex's, as well as Ramona's not-quite-current-then-current boyfriend, who controls her with a microchip. He's also the record producer that Scott's band is trying to impress through battle of the bands. He's also a lot of other things. Including a complete asshole.

As in most video games, Scott is able to gain extra lives, which he can use to re-do certain things. Like the fight with Gideon.

Take one: profess love to Ramona, gain the power of love, get ass kicked.

Take two: own up to faults, gain power of self-respect, kick ass, beat gideon, get told by Ramona to stay and date Knives, have Knives tell him to go and follow Ramona... happily ever after. Kinda. That's left pretty open-ended.

Anyways, I kinda mega adore this creation that is Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

So I thought I'd share.

Anyways... *thinks about my own personal league of evil ex's* art imitates life, doesn't it?

Well, whatever.

I've got to go. Work in the morning.

Back on the mainland...

Once again getting online, but now I'm back in Seattle. We're staying at my grans flat overnight since my dad won't take us til tomorrow. About to go to University Village for some shopping and the new cupcake place they just put in.

Anyways, here are some pictures from the trip.

Freak.

Crescent Beach

Another view

My gran and Kevin trying to sort out the gas pump

The place we got lunch.

A before picture of the pie we had with lunch.

Five minutes later...

Moran State Park. We went swimming there on our last day.

Kevin reading a book in the hammock the first day.

Us

Being concerned for his mental health... no. Just wondering when he'll remember I'm there.

Enzo's, the cafe we went to. Repeatedly.

Floral arrangement in Enzo's.

Kevin being pouty about having his picture taken.

We went to the recycle center for my grandmother and this place (the Exchange) is behind it, full of old stuff that's being "recycled" by being re-bought.

One wall of the Exchange. Poor old records...

On the beach one night. Pretty soon to be sunset.

Kevin climbing rocks out in the water.

His new perch.

He found a tide pool...

More tide pool watching haha.

One of the pics Kevin took of me.

Another pic of me.

Have you noticed how many pictures of me my head doesn't make it into?

Kevin's lunch told me to eat and blog.

He was getting rained on.

Some random deer wandered into our yard.

And just chilled there. A mama and a baby.

One last trip to the beach, this time at low tide.

Found this at the hardware store. This is "I'M A decorative FAN" and he's a hummingbird.

Stuck in traffic on our way back to Seattle.

Anyways, that's it. We're about to head out.

BYE!!

Update from the Island

Hey everyone. How's the interwebs been while I was gone? I'm at the Library again so I can get wireless while the boyfriend is biking the town. No pictures for you, I haven't done much today or yesterday.

We're going to rent a kayak tomorrow from this really sweet lady who liked my necklace. It's 36$ for both of us to go for an hour, but it'll be mega fun. I used to kayak all the time, since my family owned one when we lived in Seattle. I grew up on the Beach (no, really... we lived in a house where the garden ended in sand and surf) and we had a kayak that I'd gotten for my dad for fathers day. We would go out all the time during the summer, either both paddling or with me in my swimsuit holding on to the back and occasionally swimming around as he floated and smoked a cigar.

No matter what shit I may go through because of my family, I did have it good as a kid. I'm not deluded enough to think that I didn't.

So we're going kayaking tomorrow and then to the lake to swim, if the weather holds. We may continue to shell out cash to get a paddle boat there, but I'm not sure.

We're pretty much having an amazing vacation, and the boyfriend reappeared.

So I'm heading out.

DAYS ONE AND TWO!

Hey everyone! I'm on the Island and chilling at the Library so I can get internet to post this. Then I'm headed back to the cabin before going to the beach. Instead of the 100+ weather at home, it's a nifty 65 degrees here and overcast. Got my bike fixed and the boyfriend and I are going biking tonight. Lake tomorrow than hopefully reconnect with a long-lost (okay, so two years lost) friend who I've missed more than anything.

It was the boyfriends first road trip, first time driving through Portland and Seattle, first Ferry Boat ride, first... well, a lot of things, including Ivars Clam Chowder!

Here are the pics I've taken so far:
DAY ONE:

The boyfriend not waking up...

At breakfast at Denny's

Janis (the Volvo...) broke down. Again.

She was fixed by some nice guys in Roseburg, a few hours outside of my home town...

Boyfriend was entertaining himself.

Lunch at Burgerville

The first of a few pictures of a random Michael Jackson truck we saw...

Next picture

Next picture. You cant see it, but there's a statue on there.

Next picture.

HOOTERS! Haha we passed so many of those on our way to Seattle...

My car at nearly midnight on our way to Seattle after our breakdown. We were behind schedule...

DAY TWO:

On our way to Anacortes...

Kevin with his hat.

VIDEO GAMES. Again. (In line for the Ferry)

Hey look, it's me!

Leaving the dock on our way to Orcas.

Off the back of the boat

SNEAK ATTACK! Picture of boyfriend and his chowder haha.

He's obsessed.

The two of us on the back deck (I look so tired!) and his chowder. AGAIN. Haha.

More chowder. He looks concerned this time...

Candy on the boat. Starbursts I think.

I told him there was a sailboat coming up. He got excited.

The sailboat. Incase you were curious.

ME!!

Me. Taken by the boyfriend. Haha.

He's got a one track mind...

Making silly faces.

The Ferry!

Looking over the railing at the back of the boat.

More leaning.

Back in the car, waiting to dock, and playing MORE video games.

Last night before I went into the cabin. The boyfriend's sleeping out in the Yurt and I'm in my old room.

Well, that's it. I'm off to continue my adventure.
